Tria Beauty at Home Hair Removal System

Does the Tria Home Removal System Work? Read below to find out…

The Tria Beauty at Home Hair Removal System was recently approved by the FDA as an effective long-term “hair reduction” product. While it does claim to offer permanent hair removal – not just reduction – this term has not been approved by the FDA. Only electrolysis is permanent (though many Tria users have reported permanent results). But the question remains: does Tria really work?

How the Tria Beauty at Home Hair Removal System Works

The Tria hair removal system utilizes a pulsed diode laser to kill hair follicles. This laser creates a powerful, highly focused burst that radiates a small area of skin. This radiation heats the hair, which travels down to the follicles root and (hopefully) destroys the hairs.

Many first-time users are disheartened when no noticeable hair removal is observed after treatment. This is completely natural. Even in laser clinics, hair removal is not observed until usually the second month of treatment. This is because hair can only be effectively destroyed while in the growing phase. If a hair has passed the growing phase – known as the anagen phase – it cannot be effectively destroyed. And even if the hair is destroyed during laser treatment, it still takes up to two weeks for skin to “push” the hair out (Note: you should allow the hair to fall out naturally; do not tweeze or trim the hair!).

The Tria Beauty at Home Hair Removal System’s Treatment Time

Intended treatment time for Tria’s home hair removal system is around six months, with two treatments per month. After six months, there may be permanent hair removal in some areas. More than likely, occasional treatments may be required.

As noted above, expect to see results somewhere around week 6 of treatments. Because laser hair removal can only target hairs in the growing phase, consistent treatment is necessary for best results.

There are two types of hair regrowth: actual regrowth and apparent regrowth. Apparent regrowth is not regrowth at all; rather, it’s commonly a hair that was not visible prior to treatment that has since grown in. Actual regrowth is possible, even expected, with the Tria home hair removal system. Regrowth is a sign the follicle was not destroyed, and repeated treatment is necessary.

Tria’s Hair Removal Settings

The Tria hair removal system offers five levels of intensity, ranging from 1-5 with 1 being the lowest intensity. Even at level 5, the intensity is roughly 60% of professional laser treatment (though strong enough to leave redness and light burns if used improperly).

The treatment head is roughly 1cm x 1cm. While this small size does limit possible damage to the skin, it also makes the hair removal process longer than need be. On average, it takes 45 – 60 minutes to treat both legs with Tria.

Downsides of Tria Home Beauty Hair Removal System

Overall, Tria is an effective hair reducer, and the recent FDA approval shows it to be one of the safest home laser treatment products on the market. That doesn’t mean there aren’t downsides, however.

Firstly, the battery life is quite short, often lasting only one or two treatments before needing to be replaced. Another small complaint is that it’s quite bulky; not only does this added weight make it hard to maneuver, it also makes it difficult to see the area to be treated.

Another downside is the treatment head size. It could easily be doubled, and drastically reduce the treatment time (60 minutes for both legs, compared to 30 minutes for alternatives such as the Silk’n SensEpil).

The greatest cause of failure with the Tria hair removal system is undoubtedly the user. Many people try home hair removal treatments, but without a professional to set appointments, they often fail to follow the recommended treatments. There are no shortcuts with hair removal – neither at home nor in the salon; users must follow the six-month schedule and see it through to the end.

Tria Home Beauty Hair Removal System Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • Effective hair reduction (but not permanent, according to the FDA)
  • Kills hair follicles with heat
  • Done at home
  • No expensive laser treatments
  • Small treatment head eliminates pain

Cons:

  • Heavy
  • Difficult to see treated area
  • Small treatment head increases time for treatment (up to 60 min. for legs or back and chest)

Overall, the Tria Beauty at Home Hair Removal System is a fast effective method of hair removal. It’s also one of the few in its class with FDA approval. Compared to costly salon visits, the price is well worth it.
